A winter destination wedding in the mountains… Sun Peaks really is an incredible place to go for a winter wedding, and it’s always a bit extra special when some of the guests haven’t seen snow before! Both Robert and Regina are from County Meade in Ireland, and while they knew each other over there and dated for awhile there, it wasn’t until Robert moved to Canada and shortly after Regina followed him here that things got serious. You should know now that I’m a sucker for a romantic love story, lol!
These two chose to have their wedding at Sun Peaks the weekend before New Years, and it was a joyful day! This wedding morning was full of anticipation of the day, and the happiness of having loved ones close by. The families came all the way from Ireland for the wedding festivities and when the wedding is also a reunion there is an extra air of happiness to the day that I love. There were so many sweet, slightly tearful love moments this day, from Regina’s first look with her dad, the moment the bride and groom locked eyes as she walked into the ceremony all the way to the tender moments during the hilarious speeches (guests were breaking out in uproarious laughter while still wiping away tears!)… it was a day literally overflowing with happy emotions.
When I arrived in the bride’s room the morning of the wedding, Champagne toasts were in full swing and everyone was in high spirits. After Laine Dagneau (who is a ridiculously talented hair and makeup artist, by the way), was put the finishing touches on the stunning bride. One of the things I notice every time I look at photos of this wedding is that there was SO MUCH JOY, all day long. Oh, and a good dose of happy tears through out the day too, which melt my heart! The groomsmen were having their own pre ceremony celebrations, toasting instead with good Irish Whiskey.
The ceremony and reception were both held in one of the ballrooms in the Sun Peaks Grand, stunningly decorated by Brandy of Brandy Maddison Events. Festive tables were strewn with Roses in shades of burgundy and pink and clouds of beautiful greenery, everything glowing softly in the golden light of many candles… breath taking!! The cake, too, provided by Cocoa Dot Cakes, was a visual treat that looked amazing tucked amongst platters of red velvet and chocolate cupcakes.
Some of the guests hadn’t seen snow before, and I’m going to assume some haven’t been this cold before either, lol, but everyone braved the outdoors for photos anyways, and it was awesome!!! As far as a winter wedding goes, having weather that’s hovering just below zero with a bit of sun just warm enough to melt some of the show off the rooftops, with a fresh layer of snow in the trees… you can’t ask for better than that. A bit of a breeze would wander through every once in awhile which took our temperature down, but it was just warm enough for the bridal party to manage being outdoors without freezing too quickly. They were absolute rockstars anyways, smiling and having fun in spite of the chill. As always, it was TOTALLY worth it, and they look absolutely stunning!! Warming up with drinks (and a group shot of whiskey) in the Mantles restaurant was the perfect way for everyone to visit and relax before dinner and dancing.
Speaking of dancing, when Common Sound is your DJ, be prepared to have a great time dancing!!! They really know how to read a crowd and provide the music that keeps pulling guests back to the dance floor! Add to that a group of people who love dance-offs and you know it’s going to be an epic party!
Congratulations again to the beautiful couple! Such an epic day and it was an honour to be the one to document the celebrations!!! xo
